POLICE CHASE
MAORI WOMAN TAKES TO BUSH CAUGHT AFTER LONG SEARCH (Per United Press Association* WHANGAREI, Nov. 15. Seeking refuge in the roadless bush country of the Upper Hokianga Harbour, a married Maori woman led two constables a wild chase on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning Haraea Heke, who was facing an indictable charge of pulling and destroying survey pegs, failed to appear in court on Friday, and .Mr G. N. Morris. S.M.. issued a Bench warrant. Constables Taylor and Molloy, of Kaitaia, set out immediately, but found the accused’s home deserted Then followed a fruitless search, and it was not until next morning that the located the accused at her home. The woman was taken to Kaitaia on the way to Auckland, where she will serve a sentence of two months’ imprisonment inflicted in her absence on Friday on t charge of committing mischief by pulling up and burning parts of a bridge.
