MILTON dbituary Another old resident of Milton, with continuous residence of over 50 years, Mr George William Kent, died recently at the age of 79 years. The deceased was born in the Salisbury district. Wiltshire, England, in 1858, He worked in Salisbury district during his early manhood. When about 22 years of ege he married Miss Elizabeth Amelia Lampard. About two years after their marriage Mr and Mrs Kent decided to go to Squth Australia, and sailed in the. ship Sarata for Adelaide. They resided for about two years in South Australia, and in 1884 emigrated to New Zealand, disembarking at Port Chalmers. Having previously been employed in the flourmilling industry, Mr Kent obtained work immediately on arrival as a night miller at Messrs Hopkin and Jowett’s flourmill at Balclutha, which was destroyed by fire a few months later. Mr and Mrs Kent then removed to Milton with their young family, Mr Kent having obtained employment in McGill’s flourmill. This flourmill was destroyed by fire on the day they arrived in Milton, but the mill was rebuilt on a more extensive scale, and Mr Kent continued working there until the business was relinquished several years ago. He afterwards was engaged in general labouring work until advancing years caused his retirement. Mrs Kent died in September, 1935, and Mr Kent leaves a family of five sons and one daughter—Messrs Walter (Kahuika, Gatlins), Robert (Marton), Harold (Feilding), and William Kent (Sydney), and Miss Beatrice (Milton).
