BAND CONTEST

Lovers of band music are promised a day of entertainment on Saturday. November 13. when . quickstep contest will be held at Carisbrook for C and B Grade brass bands and Highland pipe bands. The marches will all be the bands' own selections, which should add /ariety to thj proceedings Massed bands' displays will also be held, and this should provide a bright spectacle and some excellent playing and marching The bands will assemble at the Queen's Gardens and will march out to Carisbrook and the quickstep contest will be commenced a, 2 p.m. In the evening at His Majesty's Theatre, the test selections will be held The C Grade and pipe bands will play their own selections, and the B Gfade bands will play the test selection, "Songs of Old England." and a hymn tune of their own selection. 'Mr W. W Osborne, of Ashburton, has been appointed iudge of the brass bands and Mr J. A. Patterson, of Christchurch, judge of the pipe bands. Further particulars are advertised.
