MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

OTAGO ASSOCIATION PRESENTATION OF PRIZES The Association Championship prizes of the Otago Miniature Rifle Association were presented at the annual so.cial and dance held in the R.N.V.R. Hall on Saturday night. There was a good attendance of members and friends. During the supper adjournment the secretary apologised for the absence of the president (Mr Bruce) and extended a hearty welcome to the secretary of the Southland Association (Mr Pomeroy), who had made the journey from Invercargill to be present at the social. Mr Pomeroy presented Mr Gamble, the captain of the Otago A Grade interprovincial team, with the Graham Cup. The vice-president (Mr Milne), with the assistance of the secretary, then presented the 17 association trophies and 58 other prizes. These were presented as follows: Otago B Grade interprovincial teams' cup, Mr Pomeroy (for the Southland Association); Stuart Wilson Challenge Cup, for champion A Grade team, Railway Club; R. Pinder Challenge Cup for. champion B Grade team, Ist Otago Club C.F.H. Challenge Cup for champion C Grade team, Telgineers Club. The Individual Championship trophies were presented as follows: —Arthur Barnett's Challenge Cup and miniature for champion miniature rifle shot of Otago, Mr G. Wyllie (Arthur Barnett's MiR. Club); Brown, Ewing's Diamond. Jubilee Challenge Cup and miniature for champion B Grade shot, Mr E. Adams (Railway Club); president's challenge cup and miniature for champion C Grade miniature shot, Mr P. Spence (Telgineers M.R. Club); association challenge cup and miniature for champion woman rifle shot, Mrs J. Bradley (L.N.R. Club); challenge cup and miniature for president women's championship, Miss Jones (Arthur Barnett's Club). The other prizes were presented to the following in order of merit:— A Grade.—G. Wyllie, G. McDonald, S. Wanty, G. Ritchie, D. McGregor, M. Watson, L. Andrews, I. Mouat, H. Boyce, D.* Porteous, E. Shepperd, D. Ross, S. Nicholson, J. Shearer. Senior . Women.—Mrs ' J. Bradley, Miss Robinson, Miss C. Cassells, Miss McLean, Mrs R. Hay, Miss N. Knowles. President Women.—Miss Jones, Miss L. Bertinshaw, Miss G. .Carr, Miss Schumacher, Mrs . Taylor, Miss Henderson, Miss C. Crooks, Mrs A. Wilson. The next event will be the Christmas shoot. A goose, plum pudding, and a Christmas cake will be the main prizes. The association has given the first three prizes and all the expenses of this shoot. All entry fees will be divided into further prizes, and as this will be a handicap match, with a liberal allowance to B and C Grade competitors, a heavy entry is anticipated. The date fixed on the syllabu» will be adhered to, and further detail* will be advertised. RETURNED SOLDIERS' CLUB The Returned Soldiers' Small Bom Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on Monday evening, the main event being the Don McKay Self Handicap Cup. The winner was H. A. Edmonds, after a shoot-off with G. H. Ferens, S. Ewens, A. G. Bayliss, and F. Moir. The winners of the various prizes shot for during the season are:—Club Championship (Walter Mackenzie Memorial Cup)—R. Bowie 1, D. Marr 2, C. James 3; Club Handicap (Dawson Cup)—T. Menzies 1, S. Ewens 2, W. Goudie 3: Dewar Cup Pairs, A. G. Baylirs and T. Menzies; most improved shot, J. Jackson 1, A. Judson 2. Next Monday night a triangular match between a club team and teams representing the police and detectives will be held, and a good muster if expected. .
