REQUEST BY PRISONER AN OBLIGING MAGISTRATE (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 28. A request that he should be sentenced to a term of hard labour, as reformative detention had not done him any good, was made by John Henry Gill, aged 37. a mechanic, after pleading guilty in the Police Court to nine charges of stealing eight radio sets and a converter valued at £l3l from eight city firms between July and September In a statement the accused alleged that the second-hand dealer to whom he sold the sets knew they were stolen, telling Gill he would take as many radio sets as he could bring along. Gill was sentenced to 12 months' imnrisonment.

When application was made by the police for an order to be made for the return of the radio sets, Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., said the police should retain the sets and investigate the allegation made against the second-hand dealer.
