MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Watkouaiti Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, and was attendee by Crs W. H. Brown, A. Jenkins, A. Y Park, W. R. McDougall, and R. M. Templeton. In the absence of the Mayor, Cr McDougall was asked to preside as Deputy Mayor. The Otago Electric Power Board wrote thanking the council for the final payment of rates levied by the board on all the rateable property in the borough, and congratulating the council on such a 100 per cent, collection'.—lt was stated that ratepayers would be interested to know that the total amount paid by them in Power Board rates over a period of seven years was £1929 7s, and that of this amount the sum of £1832 10s 9d had been remitted to the board, the balance having been retained by the councrl to cover the cost of collection. % » The Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, wrote suggesting the removal of the 30 miles an hour speed restriction from the more open sections, of the main roads entering Waikouaiti.— The letter was received, and a resolution was passed recommending the en) forcement of the restriction on the length of main highway between Henty street and the railway crossings •/■ Mr A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P., foriwarded an application form for a Rousting loan under the State Advances Corporation Act. 1936, and wrote suggesting that if the council decided to proceed with the proposal to build six houses in the borough, a loan of £SOOO should be applied for. He stated that the money would be available for the purpose required at the interest rate of 3 per cent.—lt was decided that conf sideration of the housing scheme should be deferred. . . '. Applications were received from J. Shields and G. Williamson for th> placing of gravel on- the streets leading to their properties.—Referred to the Works Committee for attention.
