FRENCH FASCIST LEADER
DEFENDANT IN SLANDER CASS SENSATIONAL EVIDENCE PARIS, Oct. 27. (Received Oct. 28, at 0.30 a.m.) A dramatic episode which may t have an important reaction on French internal politics occurred in the Lyons Civil Court during a slander action against de la Rocque by the Due Pozzo di Borgo, one of the chief lieutenants in building up the Fascist Croix de Feu. Borgo alleged that de la Rocque accused him of false charges after the publication of an article in which Borgo declared that de la Rocque received money from Government secret funds'. . ~ _ ■'., The former Premier, M. Tardieu, caused a sensation by stating t in evidence that when he was Premier he regularly subsidised de la Rocque from Secret Service funds. De la Rocque received the funds on the ground that he required them to intensify recruiting in the Croix de Feu and start a national volunteer movement. De la Rocque, in evidence, said n« received no money from M. Tardieu. Judgment was reserved.
