SOUTH ISLAND BANDS 9 CONFERENCE IN DUNEDIN The Salvation Army authorities are making an endeavour to improve and develop their band work, and the second South Island conference associated with that programme is arranged to take place in Dunedin during the coming weekend Bands will be participating from as far north as Christchurch and as far south as invercargill. and it is anticipated that about 250 bandsmen and songsters will be present. In addition to a number of conference sessions, it has been arranged that the public shall have the opportunity of hearing the various bands and participating with them in Salvation Army programmes and meetings These will not only take place in the city, but will include thr main suburbs Lieutenant-commissioner and Mrs Adams, the leaders of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, are to be the leaders of the conference, and will be supported by Lieutenant-colonel Scotney, Lieutenant-colonel Church, the divisional headquarters staff, and Adjutant Chandler, of Christchurch The proceedings will be opened at the Early Settlers' Hall, when the visitors will take tea together, to be followed immediately by the first session of conference. At 6.30 p.m bands will parade from various central points in the city, and a grand festival of music is announced for the evening at the Dowling Street Fortress, commencing at 7.30.
