THE AWATEA’S RECORD
CAPTAIN CONGRATULATED A SPLENDID GESTURE SYDNEY, Oct. 18. (Received Oct. 18. at 9.55 p.m.) Upon the arrival of the Awatea to-day, Captain Davey received a picture postcard showing the Monterey and inscribed: “Hearty congratulations from Captain Johanson, of the Monterey, upon the achievement of a record Tasman crossing which will long remain a tribute to your fine ship.” Captain Davey said he deeply appreciated this splendid gesture from a rival liner’s commander.
