JEWS AND ARABS

DISORDERS IN PALESTINE MORE VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE A MOTOR CAR AMBUSHED (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) JERUSALEM, Oct. 18. (Received Oct. 18, at 11 p.m.) Widespread disorders and shooting continue in Palestine. The casualties include both Jews and Arabs. A Jewish boy, aged 11, was killed by shots from brigands in the Yemente settlement. Other Jews and British subjects came under fire during several spasmodic attacks. An Arab, Kemal Alami, who was recently recruited to the Police Investigation Department, was shot dead. Children, who were eye-witnesses, told of a young Jewish tailor who was stabbed while sitting in a field reading. The children said an Arab stabbed him five times in the stomach. His condition is critical. A bus carrying workers to Jerusalem after they had been working in an American quarry, near Motza, was heavily fired on, but there were no casualties. A Jewish motor car, travelling from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, was ambushed, shots causing the car to overturn. The driver and four passengers were injured, two seriously. An ambulance arrived, and was also fired on. The police replied with a machine gun, causing some casualties. The fine of £SOOO, imposed on Lydda City in 1936, having been only partially collected, it has been reimposed, and the inhabitants are confined to their' houses, except for two hours a day.
