NOLAN DISQUALIFIED

<Per United Press Association)

AUCKLAND, Sept. 20,

Cautioned on several occasions for his slowness in breaking when ordered to do so by the referee, Don Nolan ; v/as finally disqualified in the seventh round of the professional heavy-weight wrestling contest tonight against the New Zealander Lofty Blomfield. Prior to this, each man had secured a fall, and Nolan appeared to have the advantage on points. The seventh round opened in lively fashion, with both contestants punching and jolting wildly. Blomfield was knocked through the ropes, and Nolan, refusing to allow his opponent to regain his feet, maintained a barrage of jolts to Blomfield’s jaw. The referee attempted to break the men, but in the ensuing melee he was knocked off his feet. Nolan then lifted Blomfield and dumped him hard, but the referee broke the wrestlers and raised the New Zealander’s arm as an indication that Nolan had been disqualified.

A DRAWN BOUT ROUGH-AND-TUMBLE TACTICS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Rough-and-tumble wrestling was seen at the Wellington Town Hall to-night when, before a large crowd, Vic. Christy and Frank Judson drew, one fall each. The “ high lights ” of the bout were when Christy entangled his opponent in the ropes and proceeded to pommel him, the referee, Mr Alf. Jenkins, having to haul him off by the hair before he could rescue Judson; again, when Judson held Christy in an Indian deathlock but failed to take a submission; when Christy took a submission fall with a figure-four body scissors; and finally when Judson set the score even with a pin fall after a giant’s swing.
