DRAWN MATCH
GREAT BATTING BY NOTTS TOURISTS LOSE GRIP ON GAME TWO CENTURIES SCORED (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with the New Zealand cricket team.) NOTTINGHAM. June 22. Scoring 454 for the loss of five wickets in the second innings, Notts secured a draw' in the match against New Zealand, w'ho failed to hold the initial advantage secured. Notts took full advantage of the perfect pitch, and, though the bowling was steady enough to keep the scoring rate moderate, Keeton and Knowles passed the centui’y mark unseparated before lunch, and Hardstaff and Gunn.built on to this advantageous opening a fine partnership taking the score to 199 for the fourth wicket. Hardstaff’s batting suggested that the bowlers will find him difficult to dislodge on a good wicket in the test. PERFECT WICKET Cowie again bowled with great heart, but the perfect wicket minimised his menace. Dunning pegged away determinedly. He might easily have had more success, several times beating the bat, but missing the stumos. The Tindill-Moloney combination again captured a wicket. Tindill’s work was very steady, there being only two byes in the first 300 runs scored. Neither Roberts nor Weir appeared to cause the batsmen undue worry, though a, difficult catch was missed in the slips off the latter. In ihe absence of Vivian and Gallichan, Donnelly shouldered the left-hand slow bowling fairly inexpensively, till the wood was laid on late in the day by Gunn and Voce. New Zealand faced a difficult task in dismissing a strong batting side on a beautiful wicket; nevertheless the performance of the team in this match is an encouragement for the test.
