OFFICIAL FORECAST DULL AND STORMY The following is the official weather forecast:— A deep cyclonic depression covers the greater part of the Tasman Sea and is moving slowly on to the Dominion, its centre at present lying west of Cape Maria Van Diemen. Indications arc for:— Winds.—Easteriy to north-easterly over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere south-easterly to easterly, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force at places about and north of Cook Strait, strong southerlies prevailing generally within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rough north of Kaikoura and becoming rough soon north of Farewell. Spit, elsewhere moderate but rising. Eastern Tasman Sea: North-easterly winds in the northern portion and east to south-easterly in the southern, but southerlies becoming general to-morrow, strong to gale force with rough to high seas.

Weather.—Dull, misty and stormy, with fairly general rain; many heavy falls probable from Nelson and Marlborough, with some flooding, more especially in the North Island later; temperatures becoming much colder, With snow on the high levels. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN A light frost was recorded in the city yesterday morning, but It was felt much more severely in some of the suburbs, as much as 12 degrees of frost being recorded at the Botanic Gardens. The weather during the day remained cool, the maximum temperature being 46 degrees. The barometer fell to 29.85 inches. IN OTHER CENTRES (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, June 23 Heavy rain backed by a fresh northeast wind was experienced during the morning, but the conditions moderated in the afternoon, the wind being light and the weather misty. The temperatures were mfld. The barometer continued a steep drop and was falling at 5 p.m., when it registered 29.25 inches, the lowest reading for a considerable time. WELLINGTON. June 23. To-day was dull and misty, with rain falling in the afternoon. A light southerly wind prevailed. The minimum temperature last night was 37.2 degrees and the maximum to-day 49.4 degrees. CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. The weather was overcast and cold in Christchurch to-day, with a very light drizzling rain in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 42 degrees. The barometer fell during the day and registered 29.76 inches at 5 p.m.
