Burglars were busy in Te Aroha last night. The-premises of Mr Mills, jeweller, were broken into and watches valued at £IOO stolen. Entry was gained to the shop of Mr Piecuon, chemist, but the loss has not yet been assessed. Attempts were made on the premises of Mr Hunger (chemist), Mr Watson (fancy goods dealer), and Mr Meredith (chemist). The locks were \yrenched but no entry was made. PALMERSTON N., June 23.

Charges of forging a State Advances Corporation voucher for £2O 10s by signing her name to it with the intention that it should be acted upon as genuine, arid also stealing the amount named, were preferred against Mrs Alice Hughes, of Kairanga, wife of a farm hand, in the Magistrate’s Court. Evidence was given that the voucher was intended for Mrs Alice Hughes, of Setter's line, and represented a refund of surplus moneys held under a dairy order. The police said that the accused in a statement said she thought the money might have been left for her by her father’s relatives in England. The accused said in court that she acted innocently. The money would be refunded in July. The accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed. WELLINGTON, June 23. Pleading guilty to the theft of £6 5s in monev and making out a false receipt for £8 ss, Victor John Peddie, aged 29, a motor driver, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Michael Dominic O’Rourke, aged 25, a taxi driver, was committed fdr sentence on a charge of carnal knowledge; also Lionel Hart Warren, aged 52, a labourer, op a charge of incest.

BLENHEIM, June 23

Two hundred and forty slud merino ewes and 11 rams were purchased from the estate of Charles Coulter, Hawkesbury, by Japanese interests, and consigned from Blenheim yesterday for shipment by the Melbourne Maru. The sheep are all young, principally twotooths rising four-tooths.
