THE "IRON LUNG"

YOUNG MAN'S LONG JOURNEY VICTIM OF INFANTILE PARALYSIS SAN FRANCISCO, June 20. (Received June 20, at 7.30 p.m.) Frederick Snite, aged 26, who is suffering from infantile paralysis, arrived from China after 447 days inside a respirator, or the so-called " iron lung." Longshoremen, wearing sterilised gowns, removed the heavy respirator from the ship and placed it in a special railway car, which had been elaborately fitted up as a hospital for the trip to Chicago. Snite is returning home for treatment. The cost of the journey from Peiping to Chicago is estimated at 150,000 dollars. Snite's father is a wealthy president of a loan company.
