Mrs J. Gorman, jun.. of Woodside. is spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs Donaldson, of Tweed street, Invercargill.
Mrs W. H. Roberts and' Miss Jean Roberts, of St. Clair, left on Friday on a holiday visit to Auckland, where they will be the guests of Mrs Solloway, Mount Roskill,
Miss Noelice Martin left on Tuesday by the mid-day express to join her parents, who have taken up residence at “ Nirvana,” Thorndon, Wellington. Prior to her leaving, Miss Martin was guest of honour at a number of farewell parties.
Miss Adelaide Cameron, of Bay View road, St. Kilda, who is to be a June bride, has had several parties given in her honour. A “ pantry ” evening was given by Miss Pearce, of Melbourne road, a “ kitchen ” evening by Mrs Tyler, of Queen street, a “ bathroom ” evening by Mrs Sinclair, of St. Clair, and a gift afternoon by Mrs Anderson. of Macandrew Bay.
The fortnightly meeting of the Literary Circle of the St. Clair Women’s Club was held on Thursday evening, with the leader, Mrs W. Prince, occupying the chair. An interesting article on “The Life and Works of Rudyard Kipling” was given, and members present read several of his poems further illustrating his style and scope
Miss Macmillan gave a demonstration of revarnishing and painting to harmonise a. room at a meeting of the Henley Junior Homemakers’ Club at Mrs M'Donald’s home. The club tutors. Miss Hayes and Miss Fogo, were also present. Miss Panting presided. The roll call was on how to cook green vegetables. A system of points was explained. Miss Thelma Smith, the “ rally week ” delegate, explained how to make a room attractive in respect of colour and light. A series of “ health ” exercises concluded the meeting.
The lady members of the Scottish Society of Dunedin held their annual meeting in the R.S.A. rooms on Wednesday evening for the purpose of electing a ladies’ social committee for the current year. Mrs S. Hill (convener) was in the chair, and made reference to the good work done by Mrs J. Stewart and her committee the previous year. The following members were elected:—Committee—Mesdames Stuart, Hogg, Giles, Davidson, Leishman, Smith, and Deckle and Miss Munro; secretary, Mrs Macpherson.

Miss N. Ken- and Miss F. Holmes, of Dunedin, have been among the visitors this week to the Hermitage. Mount Cook.
Mr W. J. Morrell, when making the awards at the annual demonstration and presentation of awards of Trinity College in the Concert Chamber on Wednesday, made special mention of the distinction of two scholarships for pianoforte coming to the Dunedin Centre. These were gained by Kathleen Allan, a pupil of Miss Rona Thomson, and Edith Turnbull, a pupil of Miss Bannatyne. These promising young players headed their sections for the South Island, and very probably for the Dominion, for they were awarded the remarkably high marks of 96 and 97 out of a possible 100 —a performance that reflects credit on both pupils and teachers.
