EXPORT OF SHEEP
SHIPMENT FOR JAPAN " LEAVING FROM DUNEDIN An Important item in the cargo to be taken by the Japanese steamer Kcifuku Maru, which is to sail to-day for Japan, will be 1000 Corriedale sheep which have been bought in New Zealand to the order of the Japanese Government. It is some time since, sheep were despatched from Dunedin for Japan, though there have been several consignments recently from other ports. The sheep were bought by Japanese buyers in the South Canterbury. Palmerston, and Central Otago districts and comprise mostly breeding ewes, with a number of rams. T ,
Special pens are being prepared on the Keifuku Maru for the carriage of the sheep to Yokohama, most of these being on the deck, though. some are situated in the holds. There will be 24 sheep to each pen, and the whole of the consignment will be under the care of trained men who have been specially sent from Japan, to ensure the safe arrival of their charges. On her voyage north, the Keifuku Maru will call at Ocean’ Island to load a quantity of phosphate. 7 , .v
