SMOKELESS FUEL

The world's largest smokeless fuel plant at Bolsover, near Chesterfield, England, has been formally opened by the Duke of Kent. At the ceremony, Colonel W. A. Bristow, chairman and managing director of Low Temperature Carbonisation, Ltd., the owners, remarked that while this was the world's largest smokeless fuel plant, the full extent of developments there had not been completed and within a year substantial additions would be seen.

At present the company is utilising 500 tons of coal per day. but when the concern is fully going this will be increased by 50 per cent. In addition, contracts were out for a new coal-oil distillation plant which would be erected alongside, at a cost of £200.000. This plant would produce aviation petroi, Diesel oil, and other valuable products.
