OTAGO ART SOCIETY
ANNUAL EXHIBITION The annual exhibition by members of the Otago Art Society is at present being held in the Pioneers Hall. There is a wide variety of work on view and exhibits are made by about 120 members of the society. The standard of the work varies considerably, but the work is alwavs interesting, especially since much of.it i? done by the younger members- , . , The artists have attempted many types of art, and visitors who expect to find only an array of oils and water colours will be surprised to find pastels, chalk drawings, wood engravings, etchings, and pencil sketches also included. The range of subjects is iSlso interesting, and reveals the extent to which subjects in and around the city of Dunedin have afforded inspiration to the artists. Landscapes, however, do not predominate unduly, and there are some interesting examples of still life, flower studies, portraiture and interiors.
The crafts section of the exhibition is slightly smaller than last year. It includes needle embroidery, barbola work, and some handmade pottery. There is also some interesting examples of poster work and pattern designing to be seen. The exhibition will be open daily, excepting on Saturdays, from 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., and from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
