RANGER'S REPORT The county ranger (Mr E. Campbell) reported that he had found one bull and two cows on the county roads in Otakou. CORRESPONDENCE The secretary, Otago Harbour Board, wrote enclosing a plan of the proposed ramp to be erected at Waverley Bay.— The council decided that permission to erect the ramp be granted, subject to its being constructed two chains nearer the city, and no obstruction being mounted on it within 10 feet of the road. The town clerk, Dunedin, wrote intimating that his council was desirous of forming Tahuna road and making it available for traffic. The City Council would undertake the future maintenance of the road.—The council gave its permission for the work, provided that a fence be erected to prevent cattle straying into the cemetery. The town clerk, Dunedin City Council, wrote stating that the expenditure of tar-sealing the Portobelfo-Otakou road would not be justified in the meantime.—Received. A circular was received from the New Zealand Counties' Association recommending all county councils to join the local Employers' Association.—The suggestion was not adopted. The Employers' Federation had represented the County Councils' Association in court actions, but the Peninsula County would in future fight its own battles. J. R. Kean and M. R. L. Blair, Macandrew Bay, wrote offering suggestions for preventing the bank at the rear of his section from slipping.—Cr Macandrew said that the stone wall that Mr Blair suggested would be quite useless unless it was the same height as the bank. The matter was left over until the property could be inspected by Cr Hellyer. Residents of Dublin Bay wrote regarding the state of the road leading from the bay.—The road had not been dedicated, and the council had therefore no jurisdiction over it. The matter was referred to the members for the riding. The secretary, Otago Harbour Board wrote regarding the disposal of spoil from slips on the eastern side of the harbour and asking that such spoil should not be deposited in the harbour.—The council decided that it would comply with the Harbour Board's wishes. Residents of Portobello wrote petitioning that the council make an immediate removal of slips obstructing the road between Portobello and Cape Saunders.—Cr Macandrew said it would be absurd to reinstate the old road. The council decided to form a committee to make inquiries, and to take steps to put the matter in order. Baylee and Brunton, solicitors. Dunedin. wrote informing the council that there was no legal authority for making a road through part of the property of Mr D. 'J. S. Robertson, Highcliff.—The council decided that no claim on the property in question would be made.
