CHARGE OF THEFT

GEORGE STREET SCUOOLHOUSE A REMAND GRANTED A remand for one week was granted by Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., in the City Police Court yesterday in the case in which Cyril Potter, alias William Smith, was charged that, on June 5, he broke and entered by night the George Street Schoolhouse and committed theft. When the case was called Chief Detective Young asked for a remand for a week. "The accused does not seem very bright," the magistrate remarked. " He was transferred to the Mental Hospital," Chief Detective Young explained, " and escaped from there in February last. He has been wandering around the country ever since." The magistrate granted a remand, and added that the accused had better be kept in custody.
