BALCLUTHA

Obituary Mr George Greig Sim, who died at his home at Heriot on Saturday at the age of 50 years, was well known in the Balclutha district, having resided at Balclutha for a number of years. While there, he carried on the business of road contractor, latterly in partnership with his cousin. Mr Chauncey Sim. Prior to that Mr Sim had a farm at Wangaloa, and in leaving Balclutha engaged in farming in the Heriot district. His health had not been good for some years prior to his death. He married the eldest daughter of Mr P. Souness, of Haifangata, and he is survived by his widow and a grown-up son and daughter.

Sudden Death Mrs Florence Clutterbuck died suddenly at her home in Charlotte street. Balclutha, on Sunday at the age of 51. The deceased was the widow of Mr William Clutterbuck, and had been a resident of Balclutha for a number of years. As the deceased had not been medically attended an inquest was deemed necessary, and was conducted before Mr A. E. Russell, district coroner, on Monday evening, when evidence was given by the deceased’s eldest daughter (Mrs Smith), who said her mother had been in bed for three weeks with what was thought to be influenza. On Sunday she appeared to have recovered, and got up at 10 a.m.. had morning tea, and lunch afterwards at noon. She then expressed a wish to go back to bed, and walked to her room, where she fainted. Witness put wafer on her forehead, and she came round, and asked that a doctor be sent for. This was done, but before the doctor arrived she had expired. Evidence was also given by another daughter (Elizabeth) and by Dr Radclifife, who gave the cause of death as chronic myocarditis and atheroma of the coronary vessels. The coroner returned a verdict accordingly. The mother of the deceased (Mrs Fraser) resided with her, and she leaves a family of one son and four daughters.
