AUSTRALIAN NEWS

THE STRANDED SURVEYORS REACHED BY GROUND PARTY MELBOURNE, May 31. After having struggled through sand ridges for a week, the ground party reached Sir Herbert Gepp’s stranded party with supplies of petrol and food. A runway will be cleared to enable the plane to take off. A cablegram received on Saturday stated: “Advice has been received from Alice Springs that the motor truck party which is going to the rescue of Sir Herbert Gepp and his party, who were stranded in Central Australia, is unlikely to reach its destination before Sunday owing to the difficult nature of the country. In fact, it may yet be necessary to requisition a camel team. Flight-lieutenant Hely is dropping rations to Sir Herbert Gepp and his party, who appear to be in good health.”
