RAGGED FORWARD GAME

Alhambra was quickly on attack after the kick off, and when Orange cut through nicely. Rodgers and Broadfoot carried on the movement, the latter scoring wide out. Garner failed to convert. Alhambra 3 points, Taieri nil. -Ragged play followed, with Alhambra having the fcietter of the game 'territorially. The Red and Blacks eventually finished off a forward rush with a good back movement, which resulted in a try. Flint ran strongly for the line, and when tackled he threw infield to Rodgers, who scored in a handy position, Lamont failing with the kick. Alhambra 6 points, Taieri ml. A few minutes later Broadfoot: started' another movement, Robinson, the. first five-eighth, cutting clean through the defence. He was brought /down short of the line, but recovered and fell on the ball to score ...Orange missed the kick at goal. I ''Alhambra 9 points, Taieri nil. Taieri'retaliated strongly, and Johnstone made a good opening right in front of the Alhambra goal. He threw out a long pass to Murray, who dashed across the line, to score a. good try. Waldron converted. Alhambra 9 points, .Taieri 5 points. Following solid forward play at the Taieri twenty-five, , Robinson received from a ruck and potted a neat goal. Alhambra 13 points, Taieri 5 points. The half time whistle went shortly afterwards. A strong attack by the Taieri forwards marked the opening stages of the second spell, and the Alhambra line was in danger on several occasions, but the defence held, and the Red and Black pack eventually relieved the pressure. Taieri continued to do most of the attacking, however, and the backs threw the ball about freely -in an endeavour to score, but good tackling by the Alhambra rearguard held them in check. Following a period of uninteresting play, Alhambra worked right down to its opponents' line, where from a scrum Sinclair threw out a pass to Broadfoot, who dived over at the corner. Frood missed with the kick. A minute later Murray, the Taieri centre three-quarter, broke away from a melee at the Alhambra twenty-five and outpaced the opposition to score under the posts. Waldron missed the kick. Alhambra 16 points. Taieri 8 points. Just before time Flint dived over from a scramble near the Taieri line. The kick at goal failed, the game ending with the scores: Alhambra .. 19 points. Taieri 8 points. Mr L. Wright was the referee.
