The Southern team received its most severe testing this season on Saturday, when, after a hard forward tussle, with the backs always striving to come into action, it defeated Pirates by 8 points to 3, and incidentally, after six games, had its line .Crossed.for the first time; It was a fine game to watch, especially in the first half, when the Pirates’ forwards played with the '■ greatest dash. Kaikorai also maintained its unbeaten record, defeating Union by persistent attack by 12 points to 3. The hill team had more finish than its opponents. A close-scoring game was witnessed between Dunedin and Zingari-Richmond, the former winning by 7 points to 4, and Alhambra scored a comfortable win over Taieri by 19 points to 8. v; -,v University A;and University B did not meet owing to the vacation. These teams will play later on a Wednesday.
