"WILDFLOWER"
OPERATIC SOCIETY'S PRODUC- . TION
The Dunedin Operatic Society's forthcoming production of " Wildflower," one of the most enjoyable of musical comedies, will be commenced with a matinee performance at His Majesty's Theatre next Saturday. "Wildflower" is a simple story of a lovable country girl, Nina, a typical wild flower, who, although transported for a while to the house of luxury, retains her fragrance and freshness until such a time as she can bring gladness and sunshine once more into the lives of her loved ones at Luigi's farm in Lombardy. Consisting of good lyrics, bright dialogue, simple and original
comedy, excellent dancing, beautiful scenic effects and gay costumes, " Wildflower " seldom fails to prove a strong attraction with theatregoers. As Nina, tempestuous little peasant girl who becomes heiress to a fortune and curbs her temper for six months to comply with the terms of an erratic grandfather's will, Miss Freda Elmes sings and acts in a pleasing manner Mr Arthur Lungley will play the part of the retiring and overmodest Guido, and Mr R. P. Murphy should find plenty of scope for his ..comedy work as Gaston Larotta, the wily lawyer. Mr Stan Lawson's Gabby should be another diverting study. Both Mr Lawson and Miss Sybil Thompson will be responsible for a lot of irresponsible fooling, and they will conclude their work with the item " The World's Worst Woman." Miss Louise Henderson will be entrusted with the rather difficult and unsympathetic
part of Biancc-1, and she will sing several numbers. Mr Reynolds Herbert as Luigi and Mr Roy M'Dougall as Alberto complete a strong cast. The chorus, which has been trained by Mr G. Wilkinson, the musical director, should add to the evening's enjoyment. The ballets, always a feature" of the Operatic Society's productions, have been trained by Mr Stan Lawson and Miss Rosetta Powell. Mr Lawson is the producer of " Wildflower," for which the Operatic Society has imported special scenery and wardrobe from Australia. The box plans will be opened at the D.I.C. on Wednesday morning.
