ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
MEETING OF COUNCIL A meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held in the board room of the secretary (Mr R. Banning) last night, there being present Messrs G. K Turner (president), S. F. Aburn, C. A. Wilson, W. G. Reid, H. G. Williams, G. Howes, A. J. White J. Hutchison, T. Long, W. H. Wilson, J. Maconie, S. H. Barnes, W. A. Raffills, and M. Barratt. OPOSSUM TRAPPING SEASON The Under-secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs advised that it had been decided to declare an open season for opossum trapping in Otago from July 1 to September 1. MEMORIAL FUND It was decided to make a donation of £lO to the King George Memorial Fund. MAGPIE NUISANCE The secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society wrote stating that magpies were becoming a nuisance in the Wellington district so far as native birds were concerned, and asking if the Otago Association would give its opinion on the bird in question.—The letter was received, members stating that magpies were not at large in any numbers in Otago. BREEDING DUCKS OBTAINED Mr Williams reported that he had been able to secure five wild mallard drakes and one duck, which had recently been imported from America for breeding purposes.— The question of the disposal of the birds was left in Mr Williams's hands.
