OFFICIAL FORECAST CLOUDY AND OVERCAST The following is the official weather forecast: — There has been a considerable rise in pressure to the eastward, but a shallow .depression is now crossing the northern portion of the North Island, and a fresh one is moving on to the south-west Tasman Sea. Indications are for:—

Winds.—Moderate to strong northeasterly to easterly at first north of Kawhia and East Cape, later backing to south-westerlies, elsewhere light to moderate and variable. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate. —Eastern Tasman Sea: Southerly winds prevailing, moderate to strong in the northern portion, with rather rough seas; light to moderate, and later veering to northerlies in the southern portion, with slight to moderate seas. Weather—Cloudy to overcast generally, and in places misty, with scattered rains, more especially in the northern half of the North Island; temperatures cool to moderate. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN Though the sky was overcast yesterday, there were several brief periods of sunshine. There was practically no wind, and the temperatures were mild, the maximum being 54 degrees and the minimum 40 degrees: The barometer rose steadily to 30.16 inches. The weather was dull and unsettled to-day, with heavy showers in the morning and a fresh easterly wind. The rain ceased in the afternoon, but there was still a light wind and a dull sky.
