TROTTING NOTES
By Sentinel Francisco There is an opinion abroad that Francisco may start favourite for the Ashburton Sapling Stakes. O. E. Hooper O. E. Hooper has returned home but, according to reports, it will be several weeks before he will be able to drive again. New Derby The Australian horse New Derby figures amongst the acceptors for the Canterbury Park meeting. He failed to finish in a place when racing during the early part of the season.
The Favourites , Lucky Jack and Reporter are the ruling favourites for the Winter Handicap at the Canterbury Park meeting to-morrow.
A Smart Improver Ginger Jack is a much better pacer than his name would suggest, and with a good run in the Peninsula Handicap at Addington to-morrow he will give the others something to do to beat him. Nicely Placed
Toorak looks nicely placed on the front of the Ellesmere Handicap tomorrow, and is likely to be showing a short price. In Fine Condition
Waikato Prince is reported to be in fine condition for his engagements at Addington. He has been accepted for in the Yaldhurst and Aviation Handicaps, and is more likely to be fancied in the latter.
A Good Filly The two-year-old trotting filly Grade Allen beat a field of trotters of all ages in three straight-out heats in America recently. Over a half-mile track she recorded 2min 12sec, 2min 13sec and 2min 12sec. She is by Calumet Axworthy. Disqualified An Adelaide report states that R. S. Henry, a prominent Victorian trainer, together with the grey mare Realm Chimes, has been disqualified for 12 months by the stewards of the South Australian Trotting Club, for not trying to win the second division of the Lowana Handicap at Wayville last Saturday. The owner, Mrs R. S. Henry, was exonerated. Accident to Abdicate
Abdicate, the promising two-year-old in W. Doyle's stable, slipped on the road recently and injured himself to such an extent that all engagements for him have had to be cancelled. In certain quarters his chances in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes were favoured King's Warrior The Auckland Trotting Cup winner King's Warrior is being given judicious work with a view to racing at Addington in August. His knees are still rather ungainly, but he is quite sound. King's- Warrior has proved himself a high-class racehorse during the past two seasons, and his performances make it obvious that he is capable of winning off his present mark, which is 4min 27sec for two miles. One of his best efforts, says an exchange, was when he won the Auckland Trotting Cup in December last. About a week before that race he struck one of his knees and was lame, with the result that no work could be allotted him for five successive days. The fact that he led practically all the way and won decisively is evidence of his ability.
