NORTHERN PATROL

Efforts to keep watch and ward over the northern shores of Australia have nroved only partially successful, and the visits of foreign pearling and fishing vessels have raised the question of a northern patrol in acute form. Already there is one small vessel, the Larrakia, stationed at Darwin, and now anoiher larger launch, to cost £16,000, is to be built in Cockatoo dockyard to reinforce the smaller vessel. A new policy hag also been decided upon, to give the captain ofthe Larrakia authority to confiscate any vessels which may unlawfully plv their trade and/or tresspass on aboriginal reserves.
