DAVOLO WINS MIDSUMMER MIDDLE PARK PLATE TO PAPER SLIPPER (From Our Special Reporter) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 6. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s midsummer meeting was held in fine weather, and attracted a large attendance. The going was firm and fast, and the form displayed was particularly interesting because it helped to shed some light on the possibilities of results at the Dunedin Cup meeting. Davolo won the Midsummer Handicap, and won by staying on well, but others who finished behind him may be improved by the race and shape better in the Dunedin Cup. Golden Lap hit the jump at the nine-furlong post, and racing along the back Hunting Bag and Royal Amphora were six lengths in front of Polydora. The leaders were still well clear coming round the top. with Polydora closing up as they turned for home, and the others out of it. num. ing Bag led over the last jump, and finally won by two lengths from Polydora, who beat Royal Amphora by three lengths. Turning for home Willie Win moved up. Top Rank and Lofty led into the straight and inside the distance Recollection took charge from Willie Win and Sovereign Lady.
