TAPANUI RACING CLUB

A RECORD MEETING PRINCIPAL EVENT TO ISLAND LINNET A totalisator turnover which was almost double the amount handled last year, a record gate and good fields in every race combined to make the Tapanui Racing Club’s meeting, which was held on Saturday, easily the most successful fixture conducted, by the club since its inception. The weather was fine and warm, and the f ra ck fairly fast, and the fact that the fields suffered little through the use of the scratching pen invested the with more than usual interest, ine principal race of the day, the Tapanui Handicap, was won somewhat easily by Island Linnet, which was third favourite on the machine, the favourite. Trivet, getting away badly and tailing the field all the way. Trivet however, again a firm favourite, made amends by scoring a win in the last race of the day, the Quin Farewell Handicap. Both trots attracted good fields, and in the first the favourite, Carver Doone, scored in good style from Capricorn, Dolores Silk, which ran the winner in the order of favouritism, falling shortly after the start. Dolores Silk made no mistake in its second race and scored an easy victory. .... in The gate takings were £l9O ios, compared with £92 for last year, and during the day the totalisator handled £6152, as against last years total of £3098. .. .
