SINGAPORE “ BATTLE ”

ATTACKERS BEATEN OFF THE DEFENCES INTACT SINGAPORE, Feb. 4. (Received Feb. 4, at 11.55 p.m.) The hottest fighting throughout the night resulted in the attackers being beaten off, leaving the Singapore defences sorely tested, but intact. The defenders are confident that the manoeuvres gave further proof of the impregnability of the Singapore fortress. Shortly after dawn the enemy made a final attempt to damage Singapore by air attacks, but the end came with their withdrawing under smoke screens and peppered by heavy guns.
