THE CORONATION MILITARY CONTINGENT

10 THE EDITOR

Sir Your statement that the full details of the numerical strength of the New Zealand Coronation Contingent were published in your columns of January 21 is absolutely correct, but there was no word as to how the tu civilian returned soldiers in the contingent of 50 came to be chosen, or where the application forms were to be procured. To show that the Minister is trying to camouflage the truth, he says In a letter which I enclose that application forms can be procured by application to the nearest subbranch of the Returned Soldiers Association. where, also, the necessary application forms can be procured. Yet on the notice attached to the Public notice hoax'd in Alexandra—a notice which was put up hurriedly when it was known I was making inquiries and signed by the local secretary—it is distinctly stated that .the iocal ,secretary had only a specimen application form, which inquirers can see on application. and that forms could be obtained only from the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Dunedin, and that they were to be filled in and sent to the Alexandra Committee by next Saturday—quite some agree. As you will see by the Minis fir’s letter although he received my letter on January 11, he did not send the answer with the application forms T asked—for passing on to thi ee or four men who bad intended applying —until yesterday, February 2, leaving four days for applicants to arrange all details and have their forms back in the hands of the local executive by .Saturday.—l am, etc., L. Taylor Cannon. Alexandra. February 3.
