RIFLE ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Otago Rifle Association was held last night. The president (Colonel E. R. Smith) occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance of members. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the chairman said that the financial position of the association was highly satisfactory. They had started the year with a credit of about £6l and finished with one of £79—an increase of £lB. The prize-money at the annual rifle meeting had been increased by about £3 a match, so ' that they could congratulate themselves on the manner in which they had carried on during the year. The motion was seconded by Mr R. K. Johnston and carried after a short discussion. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: —Patron, the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones); vicepatron, Colonel S. C. P. Nicholls; president, Colonel E. R. Smith; vicepresidents—Colonel J. H. Mbir, Colonel G. Barclay, Sir James Hutchison, Sir James Allen, Major P. Mackenzie, Major F. Waite, Major K. L. Stewart, Captain G. Proudfoot, Captain R. Fraser; Lieutenant A. P. M'Cormack, the Rev. E. T. Cox, Messrs W. Downie Stewart, J. W. Munro, M.P., D. G. M'Millan, M.P., A. Campbell, M.P., P. Neilson, M.P., H. P. Kidson, and S. D. Chisholm; executive —Colonel E. R. Smith, President R. Bruce, Deputy-president F. W. Clayton, Riflemen W. A. Graham, A. J. Robson, A. W. Cooper, O. G. Miller, P. Fennessy, R. K. Johnston, A. J. S. Cowie and H. Stinson. Mr W. M'Keich considered that the credit balance of the association was too high for a body which did not seek to make money, and he moved — " That it be a recommendation to the incoming executive that the balance be reduced."—ln the discussion which followed the general consensus of opinion was that the association should have a good working balance to meet any extraordinary expenditure as well as the regular expenses, which arose out of the annual rifle meeting. The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. A suggestion was put forward by Mr Clayton that the association should approach, the Minister of Defence and ask him if it would be possible to include a number of riflemen in the contingent which would be sent to England for the Coronation.—lt was decided that the incoming executive should consider the matter. Mr Miller moved that a King's Fifteen Match be held at the Easter meeting to decide the Otago championship.—Carried.
