METHOD OF RECRUITMENT NO PEACE-TIME CONSCRIPTION (British Official Wireless RUGBY, Jan. 6. The Minister for the Co-ordina-non of Defence (Sir Thomas Inskip), in a speech at Glasgow, prophesised that Britain would never introduce conscription in peace time. He ridiculed the fantastic notions entertained in some quarters abroad regarding alleged failure to solve the recruitment problem. " 1 think." he said, " our foreign friends do not always understand our national characteristics We hold very tenaciously to our traditions. We have our own ideas about the way we shall govern ourselves and defend ourselves. I think we shall be able to show other nations that we—perhaps alone among the nations of Europe—can make the voluntary system work, and that it will suffice for our needs."
