(Received Jan. 6, at 11.30 p.m.) The Minister for External Affairs, Sir George Pearce, replying to Viscount Elibank’s comment on the return of German colonies, declared it would be incorrect to say that Australia would not feel very strongly about the return of German New Guinea, “ I feel confident that Australian opinion is and absolutely against the return of that territory. The Commonwealth Government knows more about Australian opinion than Viscount Elibank, who spent only a few days travelling in this continent.”
