SANDERS CUP TRIAL

EILEEN WINS AGAIN THIRD SUCCESSIVE VICTORY Eileen gained her third successive victory in the fourth Sanders Cup trial, sailed on Saturday afternoon, and her skipper (Cuthbert) is to be congratulated on the way he handled his charge in the fresh north-east breeze. He showed admirable judgment in the circumstances, and it was not long after the start that he had the measure of Lynette, which, as on the previous Saturday, lost ground on windward work. On the beats down the harbour Eileen pointed well and raced away from her opponent. Betty, the only other starter, held to the other boats for the first quarter of an hour, but after that she fell to the. rear and was over four minutes behind Eileen at the finish. The course was a windward and leeward one from the wharf down to the Castle beacon and back to the Kitchener street pile. The course was sailed twice, the boats finishing on the run, ~ ~ . , Lynette was first over the line, f ollowisd by the other two together, but Eileen soon took the lead on a long board over to the Peninsula, and was over two minutes ahead of Lynette at the Castle beacon, with Betty about 3min 30sec further back. Eileen did not'set her spinnaker on the run until she had covered about 400 yards, when a leading jib was flown. Pettit had his spinnaker out from the start and overhauled the leading boat, to be only 40 seconds behind when they reached the Kitchener street pile. Betty also flew her big spinnaker and gained somewhat on the run. Eileen again ran away from Lynette in the first part of the second round and rounded the Castle beacon lmin 35sec ahead of her rival. As in the first round, Lynette performed well on the run to the finishing line, and gained rapidly on Eileen, but she could not make up her handicap and finished 29 seconds behind, the winner. Betty crossed the line 4min 36sec behind Eileen. The sailing times were as follows: — • , Eileen, 53min 12sec .... 1 Lynette, 53min 42sec .. 2 Betty, 57min 48sec .... 3 CANTERBURY TRIALS COLLEEN DEFEATS AVENGER 'Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 6.
