A settler on the Hauturu South road addressed a letter to the clerk of the Waitomo County Council reminding the authority of the existence of his road, which they had promised to metal 19 years ago, “ but had evidently forgotten all about. I wish you would forget about the rates as well,” the writer concluded. “If any man in the country has a genuine grievance it is this man,” said the chairman, Mr W. A. Lee. The engineer was instructed to inspect the road and put it in condition for summer traffic.
