DUNEDIN DEFEATS GRANGE UNIVERSITY ALL OUT FOR 25 GROVES SCORES A CENTURY Two major surprises occurred in the senior cricket competition on Saturday. One was the defeat of Grange by Dunsdin, and the other was the dismissal of University by Albion for only 25 runs. Owing to rain the previous week the games were limited to one day with further play to-night if necessary, and in three of the games a decision was reached. Albion, of course, had the easiest of victories, Dunedin won with six wickets in hand, and Old Boys flogged the Carisbrook B bowling to win by nearly 200 runs. Groves gave a fine display to score 107 not out, and he went on to take five wickets for 21 runs. Carisbrook A scored 235 for eight wickets (declared) against Kaikorai, which has lost four for 80, and this game will be continued to-night. CARISBROOK A v. KAIKORAI Securing first use of the wicket Carisbrook A ran up the useful total of 235 runs for the loss of eight wickets in its match with Kaikorai at Caris- ■ brook. Top score was made by J. Dunning, who hit out freely to get a good 68, which included 12 4's. M'Mullan also batted attractively to score 60, his partnership with Hercus, who carried his bat for 31, proving a valuable one for Carisbrook. M'Gregor gained the best bowling figures for Kaikorai, securing three wickets for 46 runs. When stumps were drawn Kaikorai had lost four wickets for 80 runs, the batting being very slow towards the close of the day. Holden and Cherry opened well, the former registering 23 before he was given out leg-before to'Campbell, and Cherry hitting up 33, his innings being brought to a close by a smart catch by F. ■Kerr; Scores: CARISBROOK A First Innings Cavanagh, b M'Gregor ; 12 F. ALBION v. UNIVERSITY Albion secured an unexpectedly easy win against University at Logan Park. Albion had first use of a wicket on which the ball showed a tendency to keep»low oa occasions. The batsmen made" a-bad start, three wickets being lost for 13 runs. Ditchfield and Duncan arrested the early collapse, the latter playing a bright innings for 34, but the seventh wicket fell at 87. Then Ditqhfleld and,: Brookes became associated;'-in.,; a lengthy partnership, and'the innings closed for 169, Ditchfield, playing an . extremely valuable, though at times painfully slow, innings for 60. It' was. .5.25 when University's innings, was opened, and in little more thanta-h''hour the side : :had been dismissedVof 25 in -one of the most re-markable-collapses seen in senior cricket for many years. OLD BOYS v. CARISBROOK B Playing at Logan Park, Old Boys beat Carisbrook B on the first innings by 291 runs to 100. The most notable feature of the match was the performance of Groves, the Old Boys player, who made 107 runs not out and took five wickets for 21 runs. Old Boys put on the runs in unusually good time, and declared when eight wickets had fallen. Carisbrook make a poor showing against the bowling of Mahony and Groves, and were all out for 100 shortly before 6.30 p.m. Scores: — OLD BOYS
