TAIERI COUNTY HIGHWAYS
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Much to the detriment of my footwear and owing to several sprained ankles, I am forced to bring to your notice the very bad state of the road to Saddle Hill, miscalled Grange street. This road, lacking the merest foot track, is a disgrace to any public body, and, owing to increased rates, even ratepayers are discontented. Grange street, if not known publicly, is covered with boulders that any quarry could boast, which is unsuitable for vehicles at any time. But to believe pedestrians travel this road countless times a week is beyond my ken. Of course, the southern peoples of New Zealand are very easygoing folk, and a few large stones slipping and sliding under their feet means nothing at all to them In winter I know this road is a mass of mud and rock, and how anyone is supposed to pass up and down in a reasonable state of comfort—well, I am asking you. Surely if the authorities believe that we are goats and sure-footed-well, I will retire, very displeased.—l am. etc.. Pedestrian.
