THE RISING GENERATION
10 CHE EDITOR Sir,—May 1 take up a little space in your correspondence column with some advice to mothers and daughters? It seems to me the rising generation must have to keep up with the fast machinery we have to-day. Girls are not like they used to be; they are losing respect for themselves and everyone else. They take up with men. so-called, not knowing them any more than a few days: whether they are single or married, with families, does not apparently worry either party. I know of several instances where agents have called on different farmers when they were away to the markets, and perhaps a young girl or girls were in charge until the parents’ arrival, late in the day. These individuals made it their business to find out what was what and. inviting themselves into the house were quite at home. I know different girls who were invited out for evening rides in their cars, to dances etc. Some of the easily-led girls went out with these agents who happened to be married men with families. I wonder what the mothers of to-day are thinking about. I think some of the road service drivers are open to criticism, too. even if my readers may think me narrow-
minded. One objection in these service cars to a lot of the passengers is young women sitting next the driver. As most young folk are alike, they must talk 19 to the dozen and keep one’s mind and eyes off the road. On one occasion I am sure the driver quite fox-got there were several passengers behind him who were wide awake. These drivers, blowing the horn at friends' places for a minute or longer, do not realise how annoying it is.—l am. etc.. Self-respect.
