ADDITIONS TO WAGES

THE POSITION IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Oct. 18. (Received Oct. 19, at 5.5 p.m.) The Ministry of Labour estimated the number of insured persons in employment at the end of September provisionally at 10,966,000 pending the next periodical verification of the figures. This inquiry has now been concluded and it has become clear that the total is in fact woll over 11,000,000. Wages changes reported to the Minister of Labour in the first nine months of this year are estimated to have resulted in a net increase of about £366,000 a week in the full time rates of the wages of 3,236,000 workers assuming regular full-time employment. The changes represent additions to wages amounting to £19,000.000 a year.
