PROTECTED BY A BEAR

AN INJURED PROSPECTOR AMAZING EXPERIENCE ' { MONTREAL, Oct. 19. (Received Oct. 20, at 0.45 a.m.) A message from Burnslake, British Columbia, states that Arthur Gammon, a prospector, is in hospital here after two gruelling weeks dragging himself through the wilderness with a broken leg. Recounting his amazing experience, he said that on the sixth day he sought shelter from a snowstorm in a cave and discovered it was occupied by a yearling black bear, which made no move. After several days of semi-consciousness Gammon continued his way, followed by the bear. On the tenth night he lapsed into unconsciousness and woke up to discover the bear protecting him against a pack of coyotes. Gammon was found in an exhausted condition yesterday by another prospector.
