(.Kingsland, Invercargill, wrote stating *hat for the forthcoming secondary schools’^ contest, to be held in Dunedin oil November 7, there would be two b< >ys’ teams entered from Southland. He! asked to be advised what arrangemi mts were being made for the meeting! -It was decided that a sub-committa i, comprising Messrs Henderson. P. A . Mathieson, A. Findlay," D. C. Bannanvne and Brother Ryan, be set up to s make the necessary arrangements, k = , • ■ ... The St. John Aimbulance Association wrote suggesting! proposals by which it was hoped tH at members of the Royal Life Saving Society would be encouraged to tala i a first aid course. It was pointed ou|'; :i the letter that such a course won Id prove beneficial to members and 4 isist them in their work—After discussing the matter, members agreed th| it an officer of the association should ti - invited to attend the next meeting anil give a fuller outline of the proposal's. The Sumner branch' of the Royal Life Saving Society wrote asking for opinions and suggestions »on the formation of a life guard corps i or inland waters. —The matter was left in the hands of Mr Bannatyne for a 1 report after his visit to Central Otago! Mr G. Fry, Alexandra, wrote asking if the society could!, forward, any material which would i insist the interests of swimming at 4 lexandra.—The secretary was asked to ' look into the request. ; . , . ~ Suggestions for raising funds for the purchase of beach equipq lent also came up for discussion. The hub-committee set up .some time ago ti o handle the matter reported that it , had been in touch with people who w\ re interested in the subject. In connecftipn with this effort, it was stated that*' it could be arranged for life saving to give displays, showing how a i reel should be manned. Unless properly handled, the chairman stated, life ”, reels on a beach would give people ji sense of false security.—After a g<i neral discussion on the matter, sub-com-mittee was asked to give as more detailed report at the next m<! eting.
