OBITUARY

COLONEL ALLEN BELL (Per United Press Association) WHANGAREI, Oct. 15. The death has occurred at Parengarenga of Colonel Allen Bell, aged 66 years. He had a distinguished career in war, taking part in the Bechuanaland, Matabele, and Boer wars. He had resided in the Waikato for a number of years and became one of the most prominent public figures. He went to the far north in 1914, and obtained a Dominion reputation for his advocacy of the Winterless North. A talented journalist, he conducted the Kaitaia newspaper until recent years, when illness obliged him to retire from public life. MR DAVID RIORDAN CANBERRA, Oct. 15. (Received Oct. 16, at 1 a.m.) The death is announced of Mr David Riordan, Labour member for the Federal electorate of Kennedy, covering an area of 350,000 square miles of cattle and "-1 country in Western Queensland; a"' ' 48.
