TRADESMEN'S ASSOCIATION BIENNIAL CONFERENCE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 6. The biennial conference of the Railway Tradesmen's Association was opened to-day by Mr G. H. Mackley (general manager of railways), who expressed appreciation of the co-operation and goodwill displayed by the association's officers in the negotiations with respect to the introduction of the 40-hour week. The Minister of Railways (Mr D. G. Sullivan), who visited the conference, stated that next year the Government intended to introduce a national superannuation scheme which would be much in advance of anvthing in that nature attempted in any part of the world. Mr Sullivan saidlhe was endeavouring to see that the railways were supplied with the best possible equipment and had the best possible conditions, thereby enabling the service to be given its full and economic position in the Dominion.
