NOTES FROM INVERCARGILL

(Special to Daily Times) ' INVERCARGILL, Oct. 5.. Conditions were much more favourable for training operations this morning, and although the tracks were on the heavy side following the recent rains, trainers with horses engaged at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting were permitted the use of the course proper for fast work. The Spring Hurdles candidate Golden Lap, though not on a time mission, was stretched out over a mile, and was brought home over the final four by his stablemate Baltruin. Both candidates did their work well and are in good condition for immediate engagements. Baltruin. who is to contest the Trial Handicap, in which he will be ridden by E. Baker, has shown fair form in the sprinting tasks allotted him. The son of Balboa is a lazy track worker, but can gallop fast when under way. Golden Lap and Baltruin are being railed to Wingatui to-morrow. The October Handicap candidate Double Shot was sprinted on the coursp proper and infused plenty of dash into his work. Should the tracks be heavy at Wingatui this week, the Agrion gelding will take a power of beating, as he revels in the mud. T. E. Panckhurst's M'Lean Stakes entrant, Triple Cone, was exercised at the barrier in company with Horn's Reef. The juvenile racer displayed particular aptitude in this department of the game, getting away quickly at each attempt. Triple Cone has not done any sprinting since returning from Orari last week, but bears a bright, muscular appearance, and ar he has been in training most of the winter should be as well forward as any of the juveniles parading for the classic. Triple Cone will be ridden by G. Barclay.

The local trainer-rider F. Voight has been retained to ride Epic in his engagements at Wingatui. ,
