NOTES FROM AUCKLAND

(Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND. Oct. 1. In view of the Taumarunui Racing Club’s meeting at Paeroa and the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting the following week, there is increasing activity on the various tracks in the Auckland province. The outside of the course proper, the poles being out 55 feet, was available for galloping at Ellerslie to-day, and some interesting work was performed. The going was good, although easy, and the weather was fine except for a heavy shower that fell when most of the work was completed. Kelly easily defeated Cahente over five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec. The first two furlongs were covered in 26 3-ssec, and Kelly worked with freedom. He is coming on nicely, and his good second to Triune at Avondale indicated that a win for him might not be far distant. Horowhenua. Royal Appellant, and Master Brierly were on terms at the conclusion of a round in 2min 15 l-ssec. running the last seven furlongs in Imin 39sec and the last three in 42 l-ssec. All went in good style, and Master Brierly, with a substantial pul! in the weights, was going easiest at the finish. Horowhenua's latest track efforts have been much belter than his

form in public, which has been disappointing. Royal , Appellant and Master Brierly are both doing well, and the former should be difficult to beat next time he is produced. Survoy was responsible for the best six furlongs in finishing slightly in front of Valmint in Imin 22sec. They ran the first three in 39 4-ssec, and Survoy was always going the stronger in the straight. Survey's track work has been very encouraging, but so far he has failed to show the same dash in his races. Lord Val, after running the first half in 57sec, completed a mile in Imin 52 l-ssec, going evenly throughout. He is in great heart, and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to race prominently in his coming engagements. He is to be nominated at Trentham. The middle grass was used for galloping at Takanini this morning, the going being holding. Anion and Inver were not extended while traversing five furlongs in Imin 6sec. Nun Nicer and Valamito covered the same ground in Imin 5 4-ssec. Dark Marble beat Emancipation over a mile and a-quarter, the final six furlongs taking Imin 20sec. The course proper, with the poles 30 feet out, provided good going for fast work at Te Awamutu this morning. After travelling fast over the first two furlongs. Rulette and Ngakara completed half a mile in 52soc. Galilee hit out freely over the same distance in 51 l-ssec. Gallic galloped in his best style oversix furlongs in Imin 18 3-ssec. He looks better for his racing at Avondale. The course proper, about 10 feet out from the rails, was available for fast work at Te Rapa tlyis morning. The going was good. Gay Flier sprinted, three furlongs in 40sec. He looks well. Dark Shadow and Lionheart worked solidly over a round in 2min 7sec. They ran the first half-mile in 54sec and the first six furlongs in Imin 22 2-ssec. Maungakaha galloped attractively over half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Sinking Fund was slightly bettor than Lornacfe over half a mile in 54sec. After running the first four in 54sec, King Rey completed six furlongs in Imin 22sec. Fast work was carried out on the inner grass at Te Aroha this morning, the going being holding. p Mungacre hit out freely over five furlongs in Imin lOsec. Mazir was half a length in front of King Musk at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 37 l-ssec. Both did their work well. Impasto and Solaria were together at the end of half a mile in 55sec. Mungatoon and Gay Rose worked solidly over a mile in Imin 51 3-ssec, finishing together Golden Sheila was going easily alongside Queen Lu over half a mile in 53 l-ssec Queen Nona broke a foreleg while galloping at Takanini this morning. An effort is to be made to save her for stud purposes Landlubber was scratched for the Spring Hack Handicap at the Taumarunui meeting at 11.22 a.m. to-day.
