THE CHAMPIONSHIPS QUARTER-FINALS PLAYED MELBOURNE, Sept. 29. (Received Sept. 29, at 11 p.m.) The Australian amateur and professional golf championship quarterfinals, played at the metropolitan course to-day, resulted as follows: AMATEURS J. Ferrier beat L. Nettlefold, 6 and 4. L. Duffy beat H. Hattersley, 1 up. A. Rae beat M. Ryan. 8 and 7. W. Edgar beat H. Payne, 11 and 10. Hattersley caused a surprise yesterday in the first round by eliminating H. Williams, 4 and 2. Ferrier beat the Metropolitan Club’s champion, C. Arnold, 9 and 8. PROFESSIONALS N. von Nida beat S. Richardson at the fortieth. R. Harris beat M. Smith, 7 and 6. • F. M‘Mahon beat H. Boorer, 2 and 1. W. Clifford beat A. Toogood, 2 and 1. ’ Richardson received a walk-over in the first round from Sarazen, who withdrew from the professional championship.
